Technical Guidance Document Training Series – Investigation of Landfills and USTs

Training on this topic will be held as follows:

  • Tuesday, April 24th from  9:00 AM to 12:30 PM (check-in at 8:30 AM) in the NJDEP Public Hearing Room, 401 E. State Street, Trenton, NJ

Program Description of Landfills Investigation Guidance Training:

  • The Landfill Investigation Guidance Training presents methods for performing investigations of landfills to comply with the Department’s Technical Requirements for Site Remediation. Training will be provided on what landfills require investigation and the tasks for completion of a site investigation and remedial investigation of landfills.

Program Description of Technical Guidance for Investigation of Underground Storage Tank (UST) Systems:

  • The Technical Guidance for investigation of UST Systems training presents methods for performing UST investigations in order to comply with the Department’s Technical Requirements for Site Remediation.  Training will be provided on performing historical assessments of UST systems along with investigations of suspected releases from UST systems intended to remain in service and investigation protocols for UST systems undergoing closure.

In order to facilitate a working relationship between the Department and environmental professionals, these training sessions are open to DEP staff, LSRPs and the public. In person attendance is limited, so registration for all attendees will be on a first come first served basis.

Program Description of Soils SI-RI-RA Technical Guidance:

  • The SI-RI-RA Soil Guidance is designed to help the investigator comply with the Department’s requirements and properly assess the presence of soil contamination above applicable remediation standards, delineation of contaminated soil, and provide guidance on sample verification protocols for remedial actions of soil.

Technical Guidance Review Opportunity: Compliance-Attainment

As part of the NJDEP Guidance development process, the Draft Guidance for Attainment of Remediation Standards and Site-Specific Criteria is being distributed for  review and comment.  It is from the Compliance-Attainment Technical Guidance Committee.  This Committee consists of both NJDEP Staff and outside Stakeholders.  Dr. Barry Frasco (Asst. Dir. NJDEP-HSSE), and David Haymes (SRP Asst. Commissioner’s Office) are the Co-Chairs for this Committee.

The review period for this document is 6-weeks:

NOx Limits and Stack Testing for Boilers and Indirect Heat Exchangers Guidance Documents

The NJDEP also issued new guidance documents for NOx Limits and Stack Testing for Boilers and Indirect Heat Exchangers sized 25 – 50 MMBTU/hr. It can be found here.

Availability of NJDEP Technical Guidance Document – Ground Water Investigation

The Department would like to announce the availability of the Ground Water Technical Guidance document for Site Investigation, Remedial Investigation and Remedial Action Performance Monitoring (version 1.0, dated April 3, 2012).  This Guidance provides detail on how to conduct ground water remediation including background investigations, characterization and contaminant delineation in unconsolidated and bedrock formations, performance monitoring of remedial actions and recommended tools to conduct more efficient remediation.

This document was developed by the NJDEP’s Ground Water Technical Guidance Committee, which consisted of NJDEP Staff and Stakeholders.
