Did You Know? Total Chromium can be considered as natural background especially when there are no other elevated levels of contaminants associated with the detection of Chromium at former waste oil UST AOCs.
Follow the link below to a newly released USGS Geotechnical report. Review of the USGS report shows NJ background Chromium in some areas is detected at concentrations higher than expected. Note that the NJDEP 20 ppm Chromium criteria would be used as a site-specific Chromium default criteria to be utilized when the potential for a hexavalent chromium discharge exists. Unless a typical gasoline service station facility is known to have used Hexavalent Chromium, the 20 ppm criteria would not apply.
