NJDEP Names New Environmental Enforcement Chief

John Giordano Named as Department of Environmental Protection’s Assistant Commissioner for Compliance and Enforcement

On July 2nd, the NJDEP announced that John Giordano has been named as the new Assistant Commissioner for Compliance and Enforcement.  Giordano replaces Wolfgang Skacel, who retired after 29 years at the DEP. Skacel spent eight of those years as Assistant Commissioner for Compliance and Enforcement.

Previously, Giordano served as a deputy secretary at the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources where he was the chief administrative and fiscal officer. He also served as a federal prosecutor with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia, as a Counselor to the Assistant Attorney General for the Environment and Natural Resources Division at the U.S. Department of Justice, and as a Senior Advisor and Staff Director at the U.S. Department of Energy.
