The NJ Office of Emergency Management (NJOEM) has requested public comment on its Draft 2014 State of New Jersey Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP). This is the first time that the state has requested public comment on the Draft before it has submitted it to FEMA. The plan outlines New Jersey’s priorities regarding hazard risk reduction for both human-made and natural disasters. It reflects on experiences with past disasters and details how funds will be allocated to deal with and respond to such emergencies. The goal of the HMP is to create measures to reduce risks and hazards associated with disasters. In seeking public comment on the Draft, the Department hopes to “increase transparency regarding proposed disaster risk reduction strategies.”
