Top 10 Most Brilliant Moments of 2016

As the holidays are now upon us and 2016 is coming to a close, we here at Brilliant Environmental Services have been reflecting on all the wonderful friends, associates, and clients that we have been blessed with knowing and get to work and interact with everyday.  We would like to take a moment to tell you that we appreciate you, and offer you the warmest of wishes during this holiday season!  And now, please enjoy our “Top 10 Most Brilliant Moments of 2016.”

We kicked off 2016 with a nice, icy plunge into the Atlantic Ocean alongside our good friends at Michael’s Feat for the Rotary Club of Asbury Park’s Polar Plunge. Our team had a blast, and we even raised some money and helped increase awareness for this organization, which we continue to support and hold very close to our hearts. Michael’s Feat is dedicated to helping families that are caring for ill infants with services or items that they need during difficult times. We encourage you to check them out and learn more at their website, www.michaelsfeat.org.

#9: Phil Becomes a Radio Star.13418758_1191726640862144_8305674963895073968_n

With 2016 came the Wake Up with Jeremy Grunin Show on WOBM AM, which quickly became a morning staple throughout the community – at least for those that were awake between 5:30 and 8am! When busy host and Jay and Linda Grunin Foundation director, Jeremy Grunin, was unavailable to mic up, he called upon Phil to stand in and takeover informing and entertaining the masses.  Phil had a great year, interviewing many different members of the Ocean and Monmouth County communities in the private, public, and non-profit sectors. If you missed any of the action, not to worry – you can catch up on all of Phil’s shows at the WOBM AM YouTube channel here.  (And although the WUWJG show officially came to an end on December 16th, you will be able to hear him Sundays on Topic A co-hosting with Bob Levy on 92.7 WOBM FM, so stay tuned!)

first-pitch#8: Phil Throws Out the First Pitch.

Spring means baseball, and baseball in Ocean County means the Lakewood Blueclaws, and we LOVE the Lakewood Blueclaws!  When the season was in full swing, Phil was asked by the Lakewood Blueclaws and the Greater Toms River Chamber of Commerce to throw out the first pitch during one of their home games, along with Toms River Mayor, Thomas Kelaher. And although nerves were running high, and the pressure was on, Phil delivered a strong pitch across the center of the plate.  (We never once doubted Phil’s pitching abilities.)

#7: So Many Graduates…

2016 was quite the year for our Brilliant family, with lots of graduates moving on to bigger and better!  Phil Brilliant’s daughter Sara graduated Toms River High School North and started her first semester at Appalachian State; Barbara Bish’s step-son Mark graduated 8th grade and is moving onto high school; and Dominique Bobe is saying goodbye to Ocean County College this month, earning her Associates Degree and moving onto the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey in the Fall. (Okay, maybe not goodbye quite yet…she’ll be taking a couple extra classes at OCC in the Spring before moving on and hanging around to continue working here at Brilliant, but we’re still super proud of her.)

pinky#6: Phil Loses a Pinky (Well…Just the Tip).

Winning the award for “2016’s Most Cringe-Worthy News” is when Phil accidentally sliced off the tip of his pinky finger while tossing furniture into a garbage receptacle when he was helping a friend move. The fingertip was recovered, although expert surgeons concurred that they would be unable to reattach it, and now Phil is learning to live a “new normal.”  The good news, however, is that the injury was only to the very tip of the finger, and has not affected Phil’s ability to run an environmental consulting firm.

#5. The Girls Get Muddy.race_2249_photo_38996475

The ladies of Brilliant took “team building” to a whole new level this summer when they formed a team for 2016’s Rugged Maniac mud run in Englishtown, NJ. Karen, Suzanne, Dominique, Julia, and Barbara’s daughter Alex braved the muck and mud-laden three-mile obstacle course, working as a team to finish the race in just under two hours in order to cash in the two free beer tickets given to them upon registration.  If anyone out there isn’t afraid to get a little dirty and is interested in joining the Brilliant team for the 2017 race, shoot us an email! We’d be happy to include you!

hope-walk#4: A Walk of Hope.

Our staff is a proud supporter of the HOPE Shed’s Light organization.  This summer, we walked as a team along the Seaside Heights Boardwalk and raised money to support this great cause. HOPE Shed’s Light is dedicated to educating friends, families, and the community on the dangers of addiction and substance abuse in order to support healthier families. You can learn more about their mission at their website, www.hopeshedslight.org.

#3: Phil Becomes a Lingerie Model.lingerie

Yes, it’s true!  2016 brought a lot of interesting opportunities for Mr. Brilliant, but don’t think you’ll be seeing Phil strutting the Victoria’s Secret catwalk anytime soon. This year, Phil took part in the annual “Bra’s for a Cause” fundraiser to help support the American Cancer Society and breast cancer research, hosted by the Ocean County Women’s Council of Realtors.  With the goal of auctioning off his custom-made bra to the highest bidder, Phil left the design in the hands of his staff, who naturally decided to “go big or go home” by encasing two live beta fish in the cups of this functional, yet tasteful, brassiere. With Phil’s bra raking in a $1,500 donation, (the highest donation of the evening), the night was a brilliant success. And please note that no animals were harmed in the making of this bra; both “Hall” and “Oates” are now living a quiet, stress-free life out of the bra and inside appropriate vessels within the home of our Director of Marketing. Want to see a video of the action? Check out our the news feed on our Facebook Page, and while you’re there, don’t forget to like our page!

#2. Brilliant Staffers “Do AC” Amazing Race-Style.

When it comes to an office holiday party here at Brilliant, playing Secret Santa and eating trays of sugar cookies just won’t cut it. This year, Phil surprised the company with a bus to AC, cozy animals hats to indicate our team affiliations, and a clipboard with a scavenger hunt checklist that all amounted to a cutthroat Amazing Race around “America’s Playground.” While there were no real losers on this day, there was definitely a winner; “Team Husky” took home the first place medal, and bragging rights that will echo throughout the halls of Brilliant for all of 2017, and continuing until their next likely victory in any subsequent Amazing Races.

tenth#1. Brilliant Celebrates its Tenth Anniversary!

Yes, we love to have fun here. But we also celebrate our company and all the people that make what we do possible every single day. 2016 was extra special, as it marked the tenth anniversary of Brilliant Environmental Services. Although we will be retiring the “tenth anniversary” badge in 2017, we will keep coming into the office and onto the job site everyday with the same pride in our company and service to our clients as we have been during this banner year. Thank you to all who continue to include us in your lives, and we are very excited to see what 2017 will bring!
