Brilliant Environmental Services, LLC (BES) conducted soil and groundwater remedial investigation services on behalf of a nationwide homeowner’s insurance company.
When underground storage tanks (USTs) for home heating oil are removed because they are leaking, BES will perform soil and groundwater testing. This involves setting up temporary wells to check if there is any contamination above the allowed safety levels. Once it’s confirmed that there is contamination, BES will map out how far the contamination has spread from the leaking tank. Usually, this means drilling small holes on all four sides of the affected area and collecting soil samples to clearly define the extent of the problem. The information from these samples helps decide the best cleanup plan. After the cleanup work is done, BES will check the groundwater again by installing permanent monitoring wells and taking samples to ensure the contamination has been properly addressed.
